Vesper Lynd

Eva Green on playing Vesper Lynd or West Berlin girl!

Vesper is the first girl James Bond really falls in love with, and also the first girl to make him feel betrayed. Vesper is a very complex woman. She has lots of secrets. I think this is what attracts Bond to her: she’s not transparent and he can’t quite figure her out. She’s mysterious right to the end!

[...]

I think of her as a kind of Sphinx. She has many different sides to her character – she’s a bright spirit, she’s very intelligent, she’s cheeky and funny but she’s also vulnerable. There’s an instant chemistry between Vesper and Bond. They constantly tease and flirt with each other. They understand each other without ever possessing each other.

“Hole in pajamas”

March 11, 2007

Via Watt, a very interesting article about how people copy their UCAS applications from the intarwebsss. Well, pretty obvious I’d say. There’s nice guidelines around the internet and tips on how to write one but most of the people that publish theirs have failed getting into uni. YET there will always be idiots copying them.

Candidates for British universities have been caught red-handed copying their applications from the Internet after hundreds mentioned “burning a hole in pajamas at age eight” on their online entrance forms. The phrase, taken from a Web site which provides examples of personal statements used by successful candidates, describes an early encounter with a chemistry set.

You are not ill. You are a wee bit nauseous, puking a tad, and have lost a bit of your appetite.

Understatement springs to mind.

Indonesian Plane Crash

March 8, 2007

… a plane mysteriously crashes in Indonesia, presumably from high take-off speed. This news pretty much made people gasp because of a few reasons : lately, accidents only happen in Asia (see tornadoes and hurricanes), planes crash only in Asia, trains derail only in Asia and last but not least giant pipes create craters there as well. Minutes after, the news was literally everywhere. It’s funny how everyone thinks that OH DEAR LORD PLANES AREN’T SAFE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION when stuff like this pops on the news, but to quote two people in the tube today : “Statistically speaking, it’s still the safest way to travel“. Right, is death only a statistic as well? According to some..
