I am…

  • Andrea Nastase
  • 19 and getting older every 25th of May
  • Advertising & Brand Management student in Manchester
  • Writing this blog in an attempt to digest advertising and comms and also hoping to become older and presumably wiser. Some would say that is very unlikely of me but you know, it’s worth a try.

If you’re looking for the Romanian  blog you should be here. If you’re wondering why the heck I have a Romanian blog it’s because I have family there)

As I said I’m rubbish with about pages but so far…

  • I’ve worked in advertising for two years, one year in Leo Burnett Romania as a copywriter and previously as an intern at a local ad agency (Rogalski-Grigoriu, former Tempo Advertising if you really want to know)
  • Been doing all sorts of things advertising related such as the Account Planning School of The Web assignments, attended Leo Academy, Leo Burnett’s ad school and loads of other conferences about planning, interestingness, web 2.0, ideas, carpets, trumpets and so and so on.
  • Willingly submitted myself to various forms of learning. I only decided I don’t want to be a creative any longer when I started getting headaches and became more curious about ‘why’ as opposed to ‘how’ and realised I had lost my phone in the back of a cab.

I started blogging ages ago (or so it seems) in 2003 when I was 14 and some nice people thought I had my way with words and gave me a job. I don’t make money from ads on this blog, I know I could, I don’t get paid to post either because I hate too many things and cynics can’t say nice things. I don’t care.

This is supposed to be a serious blog about random trends, what people do, why they do what they do, what crap is on TV, what crap is in the charts, why people google french kissing and other random crap. I like stuff. I like planning, I don’t like explaining myself a lot to people though. Sometimes I think, sometimes I don’t.

( A disclaimer of some sorts: Although I didn’t want to say this, people are forcing me to. Before I become a misanthrope, some posts on this blog are slightly personal. While I try not to blurb about my private life because my boyfriend, nan, dad, lecturers, house mates, university friends, ex boss, future boss(es) and their families all read my blog, accidents do happen. Posts may be public but they’re still personal. Because of that and my very clever euphemisms not saying everything about an event, you won’t know much. Therefore, dropping hints about it in a real life conversation is a bad idea. I dislike talking about myself and having people try to read me and figure me out. I often tend to be reckless and not care so why should you? )

2003

  • I started my first blogging in August, mostly about advertising, advertising, whatever happened in my life and some more advertising.

2004

  • I wrote for Romanian gaming magazines/websites Level and Playfuls.

2005

  • Changed blog address and started working as a Jr. Copywriter intern with Tempo Advertising in Romania for local clients. It was a rather strange learning process but I met some pretty cool designeres and had a sudden change in musical preference.
  • Also started playing World of Warcraft, destroyer of pretty much everything.
  • I attended Leo Academy, Leo Burnett’s ‘advertising school’ aka how to come up with the ‘big idea’, thinking 360 in terms of ‘best bar none’ and such.

2006

  • (Nothing interesting happening in my life during this year apart from some shit grades in physics)
  • Was offered a job as a Jr. Copywriter with Leo Burnett Romania. Worked for local brands such as Music Club, Dakino Short Movie Festival (“Size doesn’t matter when you have to tell a story“), Western Union, Max Factor, KLM, Bergenbier (Interbrew), Prigat etc. If there was ever a ‘learning on the job’ time, this was it. Discovered the cruel truth: advertising is an ego killer.

2007

  • I stopped working as a copywriter and quit blogging for a short while as I sat my exams.
  • I quit playing World of Warcraft and am now living happily ever after.
  • I’m now studying in Manchester.
  • I became a member of the CIM Student Chapter.
2008
  • I was on a work placement at LOVE. Hopefully they liked me.
  • I had a really shit month in February and a couple of months afterwards.
  • Working as a student ambassador and advertising and brand management rep for the MMU Business School, meeting people, talking to them, listening to them moan, doing research and surveys and stuff, moaning in turn to members of staff and possibly the union about cheaper coffee and tea in the cafeteria and more comfortable seats. Learning’s fine.
  • I started the Advertising & Brand Management course tumblr blog to share content that may be useful for people on my course.

I have a weird sense of humour.

  • I am a curious person and I get excited by things other people find boring. Anomalies bug me.
  • I keep being told I overcomplicate things! Truth is I do.
  • I absolutely love House MD, custard, cake, champage, tube maps, typefaces and typography, M.C. Escher, Nina Simone, Baileys, Lanvin and Aquascutum, Marc Jacobs bags, The Onion and Stuff White People Like, Charlie Brooker, Diesel watches, Guinot creams, cashew nuts, black, black, and more black, pencil skirts and high heels, Adidas superstars and Adio shoes, Burton, London, having warm feet, spooning and other related things.
  • I moderately love Canada. Sue me!
